Walmer Fish and Chips - The best fish and chips in town and only a few doors down from Drift & Dwell.

The Rose - Excellent dining in this renowned pub/hotel located on Deal high street.

Deal Pier Kitchen - A perfect choice for brunching or a spot of lunch with sea views and a full coastal panorama at the end of the pier.

Acordo Lounge - A relatively new addition to the high street with an eccentric decor and wide and varied menu to sort all tastes.

Jenkins and Son - A Deal favourite serving locally caught fish and seafood in their dedicated fishmongers restaurant.

Milaad Tandoori Middle Street - Rated by locals as the best Indian in town and located on the historical Middle street in old deal town.

Updown - Fine dining located just outside of deal in Betteshanger in a 17th century former farmstead.

Cafes

Goose on the Green - The ‘local’ cafe with a hipster vibe and excellent breakfast and brunch menu. A short walk from the flat.

King Cafe - Located at the head of Deal High St, this favourite run by a local Italian family is as traditional as they come.

The Sea Cafe - With a Caribbean chef, this small cafe next to the lifeboat station on Walmer green is a gem. Their Jerk chicken is a speciality.

Middle Street Coffee - Artisan coffee shop. Is coffee is your thing then this is the spot!

Hog and Bean - Another on the top tier of cafe located just before Deal high street. An excellent choice for brunching.

Little Harriets - Looking for afternoon tea with all the trimmings and yummy home made cakes in a classic English interior, then head to Little Harriets on broad street. 

Local Attractions

Mini Golf and Children’s Pool - Conveniently located on Walmer Green, this is a great choice for those with young kids.

Deal Castle - Explore the history of Deal’s past in the fantastically preserved moat castle on Deal seafront.

Walmer Castle - An even bigger slice of history can be found at Henry VIII Walmer Castle. Great tea room too!

Historic Sandwich - A short train ride up the coast is Historic Sandwich, a beautiful town located on the river Stour and well worth a day out.

Wonderworks - Found just along the A254, Wonderworks by Hornby is a great family attraction with incredible model layouts from the UK’s best known hobby brands.

Pubs and Bars

Smugglers record shop - A record shop that turns into a craft beer bar in the evening. A favourite with the younger crowd and Down From Londoners.

Le Pinardier Wine - If your tipple is of the Vineyard nature then Le Pinardier really is the only spot for you.

The Antwerp/Bohemian - The only pub to stay open well beyond closing hours. Located opposite the pier this is the spot for some late night beverages.

Zetland Arms - A seafront walk to the end of Walmer is rewarded by the Zetland Arms. Famous for its beachfront location, excellent ales and great food.

The Port Arms and Kings Head - The obvious choice for those looking for traditional Deal fare and the shared beer courtyards on the seafront are easily the best location for sunny afternoon sessions.

The Ship Inn Middle Street - The favourite haunt of old seafarers and pirates, it still looks like it did 200 years ago. A Middle street legend and one that cannot be missed.

The Lighthouse - For an evenings entertainment this can’t be beat, with live bands and singers and conveniently a short walk from Drift & Dwell.

Events and Festivals

Summer Bandstand - Directly opposite Drift & Dwell, the Walmer bandstand plays host to numerous free live orchestra concerts throughout the summer.

Fairground - Walmer green also sees the local fair pitch up for a few days each summer. Check local guides to see when it will be passing through town.

Deal Arts and Music Festival - 11 days of arts and music exhibitions and performances in July.

Deal Film Festival - Bringing cinema to the heart of Deal through June at the Astor Theatre.

Walmer Green shows and events - The green at Walmer also sees a plethora of weekend shows and events all through spring and summer including classic motorbikes, antique markets, vintage transport fairs and car boot sales.

Deal Saturday Market - A staple for all the locals and visitors alike, take in the Saturday market at the north end of Deal high street every Saturday for crafts, arts and local cuisines.

Sports and Recreation

Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Course - For the golfing enthusiast, a challenging 18 holes awaits at the local links course.

Cottington Lakes Fishing - Respected as one of the best all round locations in the South East, Cottington now has 8 lakes, from specimen carp waters and fish a chuck match lakes to challenging mixed fisheries with large specimen carp and tench. Just 10 minutes drive from Drift & Dwell.

Deal Town FC - Another exciting activity during the Autumn and winter months. Deal Town FC play every other saturday and many weekday evenings in the 7th tier of British football. Notoriously large crowds, a beer in the stands and pitch side access is only a 10 minute walk from the flat.

Deal Skatepark - The concrete park can be found on Park avenue in Victoria Park, it consists of a concrete plaza, with street course and hefty bowls and quarters. 

Royal Cinque Ports Golf club - Home to the open the course also renowned as ‘Sandwich’ is one of the toughest links courses in the UK as well as one that every discerning golfer wants to play.

Wakeboarding - A brand new addition to the local area is Whitemill’s Wake and Aqua park that can be found just outside the Sandwich turn off.

Nature and Walks

Betteshanger Park Nature Reserve - Built on the site of the old colliery spoils, Betteshanger is now a huge nature reserve, with walks, adventure activities and a fine cafe and tea room.

Hawkesdown - A beautiful walk up in the meadows and fields of Hawkesdown affords clear sea views and a cheeky back route down to the Zetland Arms.

The Pines Garden at St Margarets - Quiet landscaped gardens in the heart of St Margarets with a quaint tea room and museum covering the WW2 efforts to defend the UK from the cliffs and seafront of the Kent coast.

White Cliffs Walk Dover - The world famous white cliffs walk -  take the route along the top of the cliffs overlooking the channel crossing from Dover to Calais.

Joss Bay and Kingsgate Bay Beaches - Two of the finest sandy beaches in the UK, Joss Bay is the busier of the two with Kingsgate being the lesser known but arguably the finer. Located just north of Margate.

Art and Design

Middle Street Conservation Area - An architecturally and historically important area, its distinctive character is typified mainly by 18th century houses and timber-framed cottages clustered around Middle Street and surrounding lanes.

Will & Yates - Gallery and home store featuring paintings, prints, ceramics, vintage and objects from makers both local and afar.

Old Coves - Shop dealing in original 20th century interiors, specializing in classic Danish, Mid-century and modernist design.

Timeball Tower - Discover this iconic Grade II listed building on Deal seafront, which is a reminder of the importance of the town to the Navy in Georgian times.

Lindenhall Studio - An independent, family run contemporary art gallery working as Deal’s premier center for the visual arts since 2014.
